No. If a PS2 game can be played on a PSX, why would they call it a PS2 game and not a PSX game? To put it simply, the PSX doesn't have the hardware capabilities to play PS2 games. What's the point of Sony making a PS2 if the PSX can play PS2 games?

No, simply put, PS2 games are DVDs, PS1 console only reads CDs. The two are incompatible.
