i was told to wash 2-3 times a day with antibacterial soap and move it each time. i've had it for 7 years now and still move it in the shower every day - they should have told you when you got it though what they recommend...

From the Association of Professional Piercers:
"- Wash your hands prior to touching the piercing; leave it alone except when cleaning. It is not necessary to rotate the jewelry while healing except possibly during cleaning."
"- Avoid undue trauma such as friction from clothing, excessive motion of the area, playing with the jewelry and vigorous cleaning. These activities can cause the formation of unsightly and uncomfortable scar tissue, migration, prolonged healing, and other complications."
Make sure to follow the after care instructions given by the shop you got pierced at. If they didn't give you any there are many sites online that provide good information.
Also make sure that the piercing jewelry fits fairly close to your piercing to prevent the movement and scaring. These piercings take 6 months to a year to heal.
If in doubt ask a professional piercer. Good luck.

yes, move the jewelery.
Was a hoop put in? This is the best for a new piercing. It is easy to more and clean. If it is some sort of post you didn't go to a great place to have the work done.
Move the piece around while you are cleaning it. It will stop the skin from healing to the jewelery.

Hey i just got mine done too 2 weeks ago!I I clean mine 3 times a day like they recommend. I found it out that I can move it when it is wet, when i clean it. Other wise the first couple weeks it hurts when you move it. I move mine when it is uncomfortable. Just don't try to pull on it or touch it unless you have to. To keep it from getting infected!
