I'm using Windows Vista and I have a file that I cannot remove by conventional methods, I've tried to use the command prompt, but it says it cannot find the file, and short of wiping the hard drive clean, I'm not sure on what to do.

I'm pretty sure you can't delete anything using command prompt. The ways to delete something are as follows.
1. Add/Remove
2. if it shown in the start menu see if it has an unistall option
3. Safe mode
4. Search for the file and delete it

Do save yourself all the trouble and get Unlocker 1.8.5
http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/

It would handle those cases

Cannot delete file: Access is denied
There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.
The file is in use by another program or user.
Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

When you go to the command prompts and use the delete command you're not typing it's name correctly (or part of it's path) and you usually need to put it into "" marks when there is a space between them.
just save all the trouble and download and install Unlocker and get to use it, it's free and its essential !

download directly from
