I like rap and hip hop but it seems to be dominanting over every other genre of music. It seems like its not cool to like rock, alternative, or country. Why is that? I remember when Madonna was on top and now its Ludacris and E-40? What the hell happened?

I like a taste of all musical genres. Hip hop is very popular right now. It gives a voice to many young people. The only criticism I have is the degradation some of the lyrics and videos demonstrate towards women. Madonna hasn't exactly been a role model either. Seems more country artists have respect for God, country, and mama, but I'm sure there are exceptions. Who really cares what's cool? Just change the dial, listen to what you enjoy, and walk to the beat of your own drummer.

Whatever is seen as counter-culture by any generation becomes it's chosen musical-genre. 50's rock and roll.. 60's psychedelic music, 70's disco, 80's heavy metal, 90's grunge and hip-hop/rap. All of these had in common that they pissed off teenager's parents at the time.

Different tastes for different generations. Also, I think because in Hip Hop culture, they have different type of songs that incorporates all types of music. You see rappers making music with all different types of artists and music. Rap just don't stop with drum machines and samples but rap also incorporated classic, rock, pop, club, and r&b sounds. Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Aerosmith, The Police, Blondie just to name a few good artists, made songs with rap artists or had some rap in their songs. Then you have Eminem who have used from rock to classical music in his songs that a lot of people enjoy. I personally like rap that is positive from artists like Lauren Hill, and Common.

i listen to rap or hip hop most of the time, and i noticed that all the other genres like country or rock have the similar instrumentals (the music, not the lyrics). whereas rap or hip hop have different beats for every song, plus you get the bass. songs without bass put me to sleep.

The beats are the best... the lyrics leave much to be desired but they do have beats that you can really dance to and most of the the hip hop centered dances are the best.... imo

Luckily for the rest of us, who do not at all care for hip hop, it is really on way to fading away, due to so many people are going into performing hip hop that the "artists" are now amounting to a dime-a-dozen.
