My son was 12 when he last pitched in Little league and he was throwing in the mid to high 60's. He was fairly tall and lanky for his age.

JL gave the only real honest answer,Any 11-16 year old that thinks he can throw in the 70-80 range is very rare. How hard you throw is over rated anyway you have to be a pitcher if you wanna make it on a High School,College level or any further.

My final little league year was 3 seasons ago (im 14), I have long since moved up to the big field. In LL i think i could throw high 70's and my current speed on the high school field is 70-75.
An average speed would be 60-65 mph.
And yes, ooftyman, I was an excepton. I threw very hard and i had a long stride which shortened my distance to the plate.

If you watch the Little League World Series, some of the better 12 year olds throw high 60's to low 70's. I watch it every year and the hardest I remember seeing is 77.

I wouldn't worry too much about how fast you throw. Control is more important. If you can consistently hit your spots, you'll do fine.
When I was about 12, I would say I threw in the low to mid 60s, but my control wasn't all that great. When I got a little older, I learned how important working the corners was.

You've gotta be kidding me. Little leaguers claiming they threw into the 70's and 80's...wow. Most kids in little league are lucky to even reach 60 mph.
Here's some advice: if at only 10-11 years old, you're throwing 60, you're doing pretty well.

lol either just about everyone here lied about their speed or they thought they could throw alot harder than they really can, usually one or two players on each GOOD little league team that makes it to the little league world series can even reach 70 mph, even rarer, ive seen it but only once was one that hit 78 mph, your in little league, dont worry about that stuff yet, you would know it if you were on a team good enough to make it to little league world series.... also when i was in little league i threw in the 50 mph range, probably lower to mid 50's, now im a freshmen in highschool and can hit mid to upper 70-s, however in little league, i still dominated with my pitching, dont listen to these lies of people saying they can hit 70 mph, whoever said they can hit from 55-70 mph thats a HUGE speed difference, and whoever said they threw upper 70s in little league and now hit low to mid 70s in highschool is a complete liar.... you do not lose speed from little league to highschool

When I was 14 I could throw between 55-70.I threw harder then almost everyone else though so don't compare yourself to me.As long as you have control and good movement your ok.
