"Effacement" refers to the flattening of the cervix. The cervix is the neck of the womb and is normally like a collar, or tube. During very early labour it flattens out and becomes part of the uterus. When you are 100% effaced you are ready to start labour properly.3cm dilated means your cervix has also opened up 3cm. It needs to get to 10cm before you can push the baby out. You could be approaching your due date early, but this is nothing to worry about if you are in good health. Babies are often born up to 2 weeks either side of the due date and this is only a bit earlier than that, even if you have it today! Good Luck!

It is effacement and that means your cervix is thinning and at 80% is almost thinned. 3cm is how far dilated you are. It means you are very close to labor. Many doctors do not consider you in labor until you are 100% effaced and 4cm dilated. This is because you can walk around at 3m for days even a couple of weeks. You are definitely close, so congrats to you. A more sure sign of labor would be your water breaking or steady contractions.
I am due April 9th and my cervix isn't changing yet boo hoo! I go to the Doc tomorrow so hopefully there is some change.

Okay, when you start to contract and go into labor, you dilate in cm. This is the area of the opening of your cervix. Your cervix is dilated to 3 cm which means it has opened 3 cm. Effaced, if I remember correctly, is the elasticity of the cervix. When you are beginning to have contractions and go into labor, the cervix begins to soften and to pull back and that is part of the dilation. As far as your due date, your doctor should have told you that your due date is plus or minus two weeks from your due date. You could have your baby and it still be healthy this coming Sunday. It does sound like you will be welcoming the little one here soon.

I was 3cm dialated for 3 wks b4 giving birth to my daughter! So, don't worry, it's perfectly normal. I know that dialation is when the cervix opens up, but I'm still not quite sure on the euphased thing. I believe it's the thickness of your cervix, but don't quote me on that. Check out www.webmd.com and that website can tell you more info.

it means your cervix is getting ready, it's 80percent thinned out and dialated to 3cm. you have to be 100 percent and dialated to 10 to have the baby. you are probably close but you may also stay this way for several weeks
