Take a good prep course. It doesn't have to be one of the expensive ones like Kaplan. Many community colleges offer affordable ones.
Practice writing essays for the writing section. Make sure you can think, outline, and write the essay in the space and time provided. Try to find as many sample topics as you can, and develop essays that might be adapted for more than one possible question. There are some sample essays online that you can look at to see how they were graded. Remember that they are graded with a rubric, so it is more important to cover all the requirements in an organized way than to be brilliant or original (at least for purposes of the SAT).
Don't study the night before the test. Get a good night's sleep. No caffeine that morning, it will just cause you to crash. A light breakfast with protein, like yogurt. Meditation techniques can be very helpful, but if you are not into that, just breathing deeply will calm you. Good concentration is better achieved through calmness than through raging adrenaline.
And one more thing. Don't set a perfect score as a goal. It will be counterproductive. Learn from the junior year experience and use it for senior year. Just be calm and focus your attention, and you will do your very best.

take some practice tests offered by College Board and see how you do on them. If you did well then you should probably just continue taking a few tests and relax the night before. If you didn't do so well, you can take Kaplan classes, which is what I'm doing (they're actually helpful) and you can see what areas you need to work on more (math, verbal, reading).
you can also buy the College Board book of tests the prep books by Kaplan or Barrons

FIRST OF ALL, LET ME TELL U THAT THE SATs ARE NOT BAD! I'VE MANY PEOPLE GO CRAZY OVER THIS TESTS, BUT THEY TOOK IT AND DID FINE! IT'S NOT A PASS OR FAIL TYPE OF TEST, IT'S TO SEE HOW WELL U COULD TAKE A TEST. THE SAT IS TIMED AND IS DIVIDED INTO SECTIONS. I THINK BY THE END OF SOPHOMORE YEAR OR EARLY IN YOUR JUNIOR U WOULD GO TO YOUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR TO REQUEST INFORMATION. YOUR COLLEGE ADVISOR WOULD ALSO HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION U NEED AND INFORMATION ABOUT COLLEGE. THESE TESTS ARE MEANT TO MATCH U UP WITH COLLEGES U ARE PLANNING TO ATTEND. EACH COLLEGE HAS THEIR OWN SAT RANGE, SO DON'T FREAK IF U GET A SCORE U WEREN'T EXPECTING. THE WORST THING ABOUT THE SATs IS THAT U GOTTA PAY FOR THEM, IT DEPENDS ON WHAT TYPE OF TEST. THE FIST ONE IS THE SAT 1 AKA THE REASONING TEST. THIS TEST IS MEANT TO EVALUATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE IN WRITING, READING COMPREHENSION AND MATH. THERE ARE ALSO THE SAT 2s, THESE ARE SUBJECT TESTS. MANY COLLEGE DON'T WANT THESE, BUT THEY'LL WANT THE SCORES FOR THE REASONING TEST. U COULD SIGN UP FOR SAT PREP SESSIONS IN YOUR SCHOOL BY GOING TO YOUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR OR COLLEGE ADVISOR FOR INFORMATION. THESE STUDY SESSIONS ARE EITHER AFTERSCHOOL OR ON SATURDAYS, IT DEPENDS ON WHAT SCHOOL U GO. IF U CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY FOR THE TEST, U COULD ASK FOR A FEE WAIVER. TO GET A FEE WAIVER, U MUST BRING IN PROOF OF INCOME OR TAX PAPERS. ASK YOUR COLLEGE ADVISOR ABOUT THIS, THEY'LL KNOW WHAT U MEAN.
COME JUNIOR YEAR AND SENIOR THE TEACHERS WILL DRILL U FOR THE SATs, BUT DON'T FREAK OUT, THEY'LL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING. ON TEST DAY, TRY NOT FREAK OUT BECAUSE YOU WON'T DO WELL BECAUSE OF THE TIME. U SHOULD TAKE PRACTICE TESTS, JUST TO GET THE FEELING OF THE TEST. A SIMULATION TEST IS PREFERED BECAUSE SOMEONE WILL TIME U! THERE ARE MORE THAN TWO SECTIONS OF THE SAT, U WILL SEE WHEN U GET A PRACTICE COPY FROM YOUR COLLEGE ADVISOR OR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR. U COULD ALSO TAKE THE TEST OVER IF U DON'T LIKE THE SCORE U GOT, JUST ASK FOR A FEE WAIVER IF U CAN'T PAY FOR IT! SIGNING UP ONLINE IS THE EASIEST AND QUICKEST WAY BECAUSE U WILL HAVE AN ACCOUNT AND U WILL SEE YOUR SCORES POSTED. NOBODY WILL SEE THEM EXCEPT U! U WILL ALSO GET YOUR SCORES IN THE MAIL FIVE WEEKS AFTER THE TEST, U WILL GET THEM BY E-MAIL AROUND 2 WEEKS AFTER THE TEST. IF U NEED MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SATs, GO TO YOUR COLLEGE ADVISOR OR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR.

Go take the online lesson on collegeboard. They make the test so Kaplan isnt that good as everyone is recommending. Go ebay and but it.. its cheap like 24 compared to how much they sell it on the site which is like 69.99. It give lessons and about 8 full real test and like how to do them and everything. I got a 1730 before doing this program in the summer and i got 2230 on the next one.
Good luck

I agree you have to study study study. A great deal of schools offer SAT summer classes, but you have to pay for them, which would definitely help you out. But just in case you don't do well on the SAT you should try to take the ACT. Usually people who don't do well on one will do better on the other. Good luck and study!

Definately get a study book and when answering, DO NOT GUESS. I hate leaving blanks but if you guess then don't expect a high score. Also get over the perfection drive, that is the road to heart disease and stroke.

I have little hope for you f you can't spell school. anyway, take a deep breath and don't worry. this doesn't mean don't study, but don't cram either. relax and have a study party. eat something that you like while remembering, then during the test eat that thing and it does help trigger memory. GOOD LUCK!

Read more. It will improve both your vocabulary, grammar AND your spelling. Purchase practice tests and take them. Get plenty of sleep before the test.
