This website is to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It will tell you everything you need to know and you will have a great source to back it up! Also check out the "Economic Report of The President" (you can find it on Yahoo!) to get more info about what's happaning to manufacturing jobs in the US.

This is a chart that shows # of Employees (in thousands) in each industry for 2006. If you divide by the total employees in the labor force (on top) you can get the percentage. Hope this helps!
