I'm looking to buy a car that is very fuel efficient but not too expensive to buy. I'm interested in any model from 2004 - 2008. Any suggestions?

Go with the Toyota Yaris. 40MPG, price tag around $14000, and real reliable :)

Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris are both new and fuel efficient cars that are pretty cheap for a new car.
Also toyota prius supposedly got the best review/gas mileage for this past year.

If you want cheap, reliable and fuel efficient, then you are probably looking at older, second hand cars.
For example, my Peugeot 205 diesel cost me £300 (~$600) and gets nigh on 50mpg.
