Why not, when the price of oil drops, they lose money. Its called capitalism. Sure it sucks paying $75 to fill my tank every 3-4 days, but Exxon has nothing to do with setting the market for oil, its a combination of supply & demand coupled with middle east instability causing the oil market to panic, growing world consumtion (China & India), and maxed out refining capability in the US due to environmentalist outcry.
People have a notion of some fat-cat oil executives sitting around smoking cigars rolling in the profits, when the fact is, investors and employees are the biggest recipients of the profits

Nope, I can't afford any stock at the moment. My company was bought out, all employees were let go, and I don't have job at the moment.........but I'll quit complaining if those companies start paying their fair shares of taxes just like I do.
Guess what, a lot of people in the US live from paycheck to paycheck and aren't about to become players in the Stock Market.
PS Yes I see some people inherited their stock and are living off the labor of their ancestors.

that isn't any longer the authorities's position to allow or no longer enable a business enterprise to make salary. the business enterprise promises products or amenities and the marketplace determines the fee. If no one buys it on the fee that is on the business enterprise would not make funds. in the adventure that they don't decrease the fee and proceed to lose funds they'll ultimately go into chapter 11 enterprise. you do not could save giving you money to them. it is your decision. provide up procuring gas. Take a job in the route of residing house. Take public transportation. holiday a bike. walk. yet provide up blaming somebody else for operating a business enterprise and putting human beings to artwork. to Paul B: Bush and Cheney taking kickbacks from oil businesses? Why do not you seem at who's backing human beings like Nancy Pelosi. You liberals are so hateful of the rich except they're Democrats raising taxes. they're those who're finding out on your pocket. for sure you opt for to stay in a socialist society. If it truly is what you opt for then move to a unique u . s . the position you grants up your freedom to have human beings take care of you. i will stay right here and artwork my a** off and make investments interior the oil businesses, so per chance sometime i'd be hated by technique of lazy liberals who do not opt for to earn their save.

I'm sure the Bush family wealth being made from oil and the cost of oil topping out monthly on new record highs is just a coincidence...
Cheney get kickbacks from Haliburton and we're in a 4 year long war. That's just coincidence too..
And this may come as a shock for you and you'll probably not be able to fathom what I'm about to say, but:
Not everyone wants to profit at the expense of others! *gasp*

You'd do better with contract drillers like Transocean.
Exxon hasn't maintained its reserves - the stock keeps going up because instead of reinvesting the current profits they're using it to buy back stock.
