I want to start writing my own book, what steps do I need to take to begin this process?

If you have it written, then what are you asking? Do you want to know how to get it PUBLISHED? If so, you need an agent. Go to the library and see if they have a copy of How To Get A Literary Agent (by Michael Larsen) or the 2007 Guide to Literary Agents. Those books will tell you what to do. If you want to try to get it published yourself, you should get a copy of the 2007 Writer's Market book, which lists those publishers that might accept unsolicited manuscripts.

Just curious what is the book about? Also a suggestion would probably be to maybe give a generic format of the book and retype (unless you already have it in the computer) and post it on a writing site to see how it will go amoung the reviewers

(if it's successful many people may have trouble recalling it being the same, whether they thought it good or bad. Unless they really loved it) But you can find a literary agent or a small or major publishing co. by typing in the address in either the Yahoo! Google or whatever you use search engine and type in 'how to get my story published' this works alot of the times. Or in the address bar of Yahoo! on the homepage then just type in the desired city which you wish to look for one and you should get some results.

If you have the book written, then what you are wondering is how to get it PUBLISHED. That means printed by a company with hopes that it will sell millions of copies and make you rich and famous.

One good place to start is the bookstore. Check out books similar to your book. See what companies published them. That's your best bet. Start with someone who prints books like yours.

There is a good book called Writers Market. It lists all of the major and minor publishing houses. Will provide you with lots of valuable information about who to contact. Most major libraries will have a copy of it.

it can be expensive getting your book published. you will need some hard cash or good backing .if you go to amazon books and look under Norman bailey (my brother writes books for children )you will see on the left hand side of the screen were it states about buying and publishing books . you can aso contact various publishers to see if they are interested in what you have written.i send you a link,

You need to send out the first few chapters to all publishers you can and then just wait. you could also send bits of it to competitions and stuff. I am in the process of sendig out all of mine now. My friend who is a journo said that it is the only way to get it done. if they like it they will contact you if not they wont and you just have to keep trying, after all it is an art form and art is a very hard industry to get recognised in...good luck though i hope it works out for you:)

Try the website www.writing.com. They have alot of helpful pages. You can also submit your book for other users to read and critique. I have been reading a novel on there in the children's books genre entitled "Elkwater's King". It is wonderful and the author seems to enjoy getting his chapters rated by the website's users. what u need is a computer, a cover maker thing, and if u want to start over than u have to get another inspiration. u also need an editor to proofread ur book and also to tell u if something is missing or if u could add something to make it less dreary or simple and easy to guess.
I tried writing a book, but hey, im young, i cant do much.
