They might be able to override a veto. Don't forget, plenty of Republicans in the senate voted for the bill (I assume you mean the emergency spending bill)

Considering President Bush's first threat of a Veto, which was allowing our terrorist allies the Dubiaians run six of seven of our ports, I find this veto a bad way to cover his arss with all of these failed policies. Say this never came to a vote. Do you think the President would change his mind on all things he has said about staying the course in the war on terror? He has been wrong or lied on almost everything he has said and done about this war and I guess you are saying he's done a good job and his great dessicions as he shots from the hip and has never been wrong until a few months ago when he did make a mistake. If you are worried about wasting tax payers money, why aren't we asking Halliburton were the missing 2.9 Billion dollars are that are unaccountable? We impeach Clinton for oral sex but President Dolittle does the whole nation at the oval office and not a peep from either side of the isle. For your information it's really a corporate media. We are ranked the 22nd freest press in the world of over 90 countries with presses.

They are doing what the majority of Americans want, working on getting us out of Iraq. When President Bush puts the veto pen to the first piece of legislation threatening his power over this conflict, it will be another spike in the chances of the GOP keeping the White House. The republicans are already seen as warmongers at this point, not doing the will of the people will only have negative implications for the party come elections.

The idea is not to pass a bill or veto it. The idea is to surrender to the enemy and leave the helpless to be slaughtered as before. Also if Dubai is so bad why is Tiger Woods Putting in over 150 million in golf courses and hotels there using the money that you paid him. Also Haliburtin's primary owner is Lady bird Johnson. No better Dem ever lived, her husband and his friend JFK were responsible for 8 failed years in Vietnam. Oh ya we forgot!

Oh right it is such a waste of time. They should just let Bush run all over them like a spoiled child. They should never try to stop him from doing anything wrong. God forbid the man has people who disagree with him he will just pout and veto it.

as long as congress refuses to cave-in the longer GWB's emergency funds are hung up. note that these are emergency funds over and above the military budget. Maybe Congress can't win but then, neither can GWB. This is a stalemate that has to be broken. Either congress caves and yields to the Whitehouse or GWB caves and yields to the American majority.

Because politicians like wasting time and money. Why would they want to solve social security when they still have another 10-20 years before it runs out.

They're letting the people know that they hear them and want to do something about it.

So now voters will know that it's solely the Republicans that want to be mired in this mess of a war.

It's a political move to hinder the Republican party even further and make them very unpopular among voters.

Putting the smackdown on Republicans is *never* a waste of time!

They know they are. Or do you think you know something extra super special that they don't know?

They're making the point to the President that they're not afraid of his veto threats, and that they're going to keep at this legislation because it's what the people want.

NO, it is NOT a waste of time.

It is the GOP and BUSH that now want to CUT OFF FUNDING FOR THE TROOPS.

It is BUSH AND THE GOP who are not willing to GIVE THE TROOPS THE PROPER EQUIPMENT, TRAINING, AND REST TO ACCOMPLISH THEIR MISSION.

(The mission that keeps changing as Bush's quagmire gets deeper and uglier each month.)
