I like dandelion greens in salad and would like to grow them this summer. How do you start them? I'd dig up the neighbor's plants and transplant them, but I'm concerned about pesticides.

You can grow them yourself in a garden, like any other green. Stokes seed company sells seeds for a dandelion meant for eating. It has nice, fat leaves. There's also a French dandelion seed. Oh la la ! :-) Look at www.stokeseed.com

Till and prepare a small garden area just as you would for any other vegetable/greens garden. Then, as the others said, get some seeds from the dandelion seed head (the white puff) and sprinkle them in your prepared garden as you would any other plant. One suggestion, as dandelions are typically not a favorite plant of most people, i.e., a weed pest, I would suggest making sure that you don't allow your plants to go to seed and pluck the flowers as soon as possible so they don't spread to your neighbors' yards as your neighbors most likely won't appreciate your re-population of this weed.

Just wait until the bloom turns into the white puffs that fly away. Grab the puffs and plant them. Shouldn't have pesticide issues with that.

Pick a few with the white tops, take them to your ground and blow on them. The seeds will plant themselves and make new plants pretty quickly. They are usually the first to grow, first to bloom and last to die off in the winter!
