I was going over my bank statement and found charges I never made. I traced them back to someone hacking into an online account and getting access to my debit card. I closed my accounts before any real damage was done, but I'm afraid they might be using my other information as well, since they hacked into a site that had my full name and birthdate (not SSN though) What do I need to do to ensure they don't try anything else?

You need to file a police report and also contact one of the credit bureaus -- Experian, Transunion or the other one and fill out a fraud alert -- this is free and lasts 90 days. They also have other fraud protection services but they charge you for them. I think you have the right to extend the basic fraud alert several times. Also, be on the lookout for new bills for things you neer order -- I was getting bills from Cingular -- but I thought they were just solicitations and I was throing them out -- so be sure to open all your mail to be sure there are no bills.

Report it, and ask them to put a montoring service on your credit (You have to pay for it though) Contact TransUnion or either one. You should have filed a police report

that fraud alert sucks, it doesn't stop them..so I would ask about other options when you call..you need something longer than 90 days. And its not 100% safe

Start listening to Howard 101 on Sirius, there is a guy that give's out all his info and says that he has insurance against any kind of identity theft. His SS# is 134-57-8812, he gives it out on the air.

The very first thing you do is report it to the credit reporting agencies. Then contact social security for a new number.God bless you though this. Pray fervently .
