Everytime we turn around something else is becoming illegal or banned from use. Everywhere you look there are security camera's and gaurds, all for our own protection. Why do we need the goverment or state and local angencies telling us how to live and what is good for us. Everyday it feels like we are becoming more and more like the countries we are trying not to be.

Thanks for your response ! I wasn't bashing the U.S. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else and thank you for serving our country and protecting us and our freedoms. I think we are allowing the gov't to control more and more of our lives in the name of security or safety.

By the time the ignorant public wakes up, it will be too late. We are losing our civil liberties on a daily basis. Bush has ruined our great country and I hope we can one day recover from his presidency.

Global Warming has this country on a one way ticket to hell. They can call us terrorists if we disagree with the way they run the economy; Our economy and the rich people that own it are responsible for us not being able to stop global warming and therefore to continue all the living species on the Earth. They (those in political and financial power and the military and police that back them) will therefore put a lid on our pansy asses and control us till the day this planet keels over from polluted waste. Most people don't seem to care that their freedoms dissappear, all the while continuing to be brainwashed in schools and TV, etc. We could be living in a clean and modern and responsible unpolluted country, and as supposedly number one country, we should be. But they make money off of our every move and they don't care if they put the world in the dump to do it. It is a life or death issue for the human race. And suddenly you find yourself in a country full of brainwashed Yankee Jew lovers ready to protect Israel at any cost, and you are supposed to salute the Melting Pot country. Evil people run this country somehow convincing good citizens that everything is going fine. When enough problems finally overcome a country like ours, then one day the crap will hit the fan. It's too bad that people don't consider what's happening here is a permanent detour straight to Hell from a country with a wonderful past.

I am a young male who lives in northern jersey. I can tell you from a ton of experience we are becoming a police state. Its like PBA card or badge = get out of jail free card. If you plead not guilty in court to a stupid traffic offense, the judge makes you feel like you waisted **** load of time, the prosecutor tries to convince you that you are better off taking a lesser charge than fighting it, EVEN IF YOU REALLY ARE NOT GUILTY. So the next time is is just sooo much easier to plead guilty or take the prosecutors advice...which, in turn is giving the cop the power. He now knows he can write any ticket and you will just pay it, even if you are innocent.

Look what happen in LA back in '92. That was because they were fed up with the cops. Government has no control, cops have all the control.

Incidentally, someone asked this last week.

Yeah, I absolutely think that the US is becoming a police state. Maricopa County, Arizona is working to make it illegal to blow your leaves off of your lawn and onto the street. Give me a break! Can you say "micromanagement"? I don't want to have to ask the gov't for permission for everything I do.

It is getting to the point where we'll have to be like, "Excuse me, is this the State Department of Everything? Yeah, well I am about to leave my house. Is that okay, and which car should I take? Can I even take a car today, or is the "no drive" advisory in effect?"

Yes, we are a police state. We have almost no control over our lives, because we can be written a bogus ticket, can be taken to a biased court, and thrown in jail.
I expect them to chip us soon. For anyone that is religious, that signals the end.
The government and its law enforcement are becoming more and more controlling and it is because the government has become redundant. Not to say that it is not necessary, but now that all our basic rights are taken care of and we are content the government seeks to enlarge its own power, because that is the nature of any governing organization.

The government hastheduty to protect the people in order to keep and maintain an orderly society ..Since the welfareof the majority as opposed to the individual is the goal of the government, in the exerciseof the police power of the state, some restrictions affecting individual right may be imposed.

That isn't really what a police state is, but good topic.

Security is so frequently present to make the majority feel safe. It really does not make everything so much safer, but is a complete comfort issue. If we eliminated 50% of secucurity laws and measures, we would be only about 5% less safe and would save a lot of money. Though, who is going to vote on that?

Are you kidding?? Millions of Illegal Aliens are crossing our border right now, breaking our laws, smuggling drugs, killing US Citizens, the list goes on. The only policing going on is the liberals trying to put an end to everything American, like our language, our right to speak out against injustice, the right to live morally, the right to raise your kids how you see fit etc. Look it up, these are all liberal ideas, "SOCIAL" ideas. So police state? Look around and research what YOU hold dear, not just stupid things like drugs or whatever but real values and see who's against it, the answer will surprise you.

I don't really know. I haven't been back to the U.S. for a little over four years. What's it like now? You see, I've been overseas serving in the Army to support and defend the Constitution- you know, that group of ideas that established the country and provided for our liberty and rights. Anyway, in that time I haven't managed to make it back (either time or money issues) for any length of time. I've missed weddings, birthdays, anniversary celebrations, funerals, and more. But you know what, I'm proud to serve. It's worth it.

Oh- I'm sorry. I got off on a tangent there. You were saying something about how terrible America has become? Please, continue bashing.

Funny how a lot of the people who complain about the government "telling them what to do" are among the first to clamor and whine for the federal government to help them out more. The more you depend on "big brother" , the more freedom and privacy you are subject to relinquishing.. As the cliche goes "If you dance to the music, you have to pay the piper"
