The engine referance people have quoted is wrong, all modern focuses (st and diesel excluded) use the zetec engine. Zetec is now a model name (hence the diesel zetec focus).

I can't remember the exact differences but lx is the base model, the zetec has alloys, colour coded door handles and bumpers and nicer seat material. Then the zetec climate has the above plus climate control(ac) and heated front screen (the best extra I can think of). The 1.6 focus comes with 2 1.6 petrol engines, a 100bhp and a 115bhp.

Best bet is get a broucher and have a flick through.

I'm pretty sure that they don't do a ghia any more and the new spec is the titanium and titanium x (but don't hold me to that).

Unless they've changed it recently Zetec refers to the engine type, lx refers to the trim level of the car.

The zetec engine is fords newest generation of engine design, it offers all kind of benefits over older engines, higher compression, better fuel efficiency that kind of bumf.

LX is usually little more than the basic model with a couple of extras thrown in, i.e. might have a CD player instead of a radio cassette, seat coverings might be a nicer material, possibly have alloy wheels.

If you can find one that fits the bill especially with new cars I'd always go for the highest spec trim over low milage. Modern car engines with minimal servicing will cover 150,000 miles, so what difference does it make if you buy with 60,000 miles or 40,000 except price?

However if you can get a Ghia X or Si with 60,000 miles for the same price as an LX with 40,000 it's a nicer environment in which to drive when you have all the add-ons.

Engines are the same as per a previous answer. It depends on how old a car you are looking for as regards to specification.
Newer LX and Zetec both have alloys, Zetec has front fogs and a firmer ride - suspension and upholstery - and is generally considered a "sports" version for this fact, LX is softer upholstery and suspension so is built more for comfort.
As previously said, try and find one with A/C and heated front screen, it shouldnt be hard, these two items alone are worth their weight in gold both from a protecting your investment angle (it will sell mush easier when its time to part company) and personal enjoyment whilst you own it - heated front screens should be compulsory in all cars in my view, they are brilliant.
Whichever you decide on you can be sure of a reliable, very solid motor car... Good Choice !!

Lx is a base model with hardly anything on it. Zetech is a better spec ( Alloys, air con, Full electrics Etc )
