I need more detailed question. The most basic answer is you can only use memory of the same type and speed as what is allready installed, there are however some eceptions... More details are needed now....

Most of the time you can use memory with a higher speed, Memory supports the lower clocked speeds, such as DDR 400 can be clocked down to 333. Your motherboard may adjust the clock speed automatically , or you will have to manually adjust the speed in your bios. You should check the quality vendor list, or the brands that have been used by your motherboard. Sometimes motherboards can be finicky with which brand you use.
