Customer Focus

Imagine you are working at the station barrier of a LU station. An elderly tourist with limited English comes up to you. He is carrying a number of bags and he is able to communicate that he is lost and needs to get to Heathrow.

a. What would you do?

b. Why would you act in this way?

Sorry. Just read your other questions and realised its da london underground! Sorry duck...my bad.

Anyhow.

a) Reassure him. Use comforting tones and repeat back what he has said and assure him that you understand he wanted to get to Heathrow. Get a map of da london ungerground tubes and show him the train and line he needs to get on. If needs be take him directly to the platform or call for assistance for someone to take him.

b) Customers are very important and we must cater for each one. By showing him the map I am creating a universal language which we both understand. It's important to get him to his destination safely as the london underground can be distressing, especially for someone who's never travelled on there before. By repeating back the info he says to me he is sure that i understand where he needs to get to and not only does this create a rapport between the two of us but it reassures him that i understand. As a cust service assis. it would be my job to ensure that each and every cust has a safe and pleasant journey and that is why i would act in this way.

A) Well first of all i would smile at the tourist, and offer him the nearest information centre which would have some foreign speaker people working, by doing a sign language or something that the tourist would understand. then if he needs a taxi, i would call a taxi for him to get him to heathrow airport, and offer him help with his lugage.
B) Offering him help would make him feel privaliged, and important as part of the LU officers jobs would be met, and if he had a good experience service at the station he would reccommend this to his other friends something called "word of mouth"

a) I would get him one of those little maps, show him an X for 'You Are Here', then trace the route he needs to take.
Then I would direct him to the correct platform and quickly show him the colour(s) he needs to follow to stay on the correct routes.
I don't know if LU has a porter service, but if they do, I would call someone to give him a hand with the bags, and get him started on his journey.

b) I would act in this way because if his English is limited, I don't want to confuse him by giving him complicated instructions that he mightn't understand. I would try to keep it simple and straightforward to help him reach his destination with ease.

A - I would call for a porter or other assistant, with a lugage trolley, who could escort the passenger to a taxi rank or the nearest platform/station.

B - To show the visitor that help was always at hand and that we (the company) take pride and care of people and try to help wherever possible.

**Still don't know what LU is, so you may have to adapt the answers.
