My roommate and I have a problem, our bathtub drains are somehow clogged, and so when we shower the bath fills up with water. It's hard to clean, and gross to withhold. Any suggestions on what products work best for this kind of problem?

draino only works in tv commercials. FlowEasy drain cleaner available at Lowe's and maybe other places. I get it at Lowe's. Contains concentrated sulphuric acid, (sounds scary don't it?) This is probably the best drain cleaner for hair clogs I've come across, any clog for that matter. In any case be careful with it, follow the directions exactly and you'll be fine. Most important thing to remember is to pour it in slowly.

Plunging it may help for awhile but the best fix is to remove the hair, you can get alot of it with a clothes hanger or a zip it (don't ask) but this stuff is the easiest cleanest fix. I'd also suggest getting a hair catcher for your drain. This is probably the first thing I would do in your case if I were called for the repair.

If you have more time than money you can try the baking soda and vinegar mix. simply our baking soda and white vinegar down the drain and put something heavy like a pot filled with water over the drain and let sit. After a while pour boiling or very hot water down the drain and test. Try this technique after the dirty water has drained (however slowly) if possible. Depending on how bad the clog is you may have to repeat the process several times but I find it works well as an alternative to products with similar actions (the bubbling that forces things down) and is both economical in terms of price and much better for the environment than Draino, Mr. Plumber, and the other chemical things on the market.

Usually, it's just hair that's clogging the drain. Use a metal clothes hanger to help you take out the hair. If that doesn't fix your problem. Buy some Drano or a similar product. It should unclog the drain nicely.

being a community tub you probably have a hair clog. more that likely your going to need to run a drain snake. you can use a brand name product like Drano.
if your mind is set to try a product, than I would either one specific to hair, or a LYE, lye will dissolve anything organic.hope it helps.

use a clothes hanger and scrape out any hair or soap scum...they also sell enzymes at home depot to pour down the drain that work quite well.
