I pegged 21 the other day, and like always it was jacks and fives. Oponents plays A jack, i play a 5, thats 2 for me. He plays a 5, 2 for him, I play another 5, thats 6 for me, 8 total, it's a go. I play another 5 for 12, and 1 for a go. 8 + 12+1=21

The MAXIMUM you can earn for pegging in one hand of cribbage is 30 (its incredibly unlikely, just as getting 29 in your hand is incredibly unlikely) and requires your opponent to play rather unintelligently, but it IS possible
(just like the checkmate in TWO turns where black wins).

Here goes:

Your opponent plays a seven. You then play another seven (pair - 2 points). Your opponent plays another seven. You then play the remaining seven (12 points - six pair). If your opponent has all cards four or higher in their hand, you get a LAST CARD point.

Then, your opponent plays a six. You then play another six (pair - 2 points). Your opponent plays another six. You then play the remaining six (12 points - six pair). Since all eight cards will have been played, you will get a LAST CARD point.

This would give you 2+12+1+2+12+1 = 30.

I know that the max hand without pegging is 29. I think the most I ever pegged was 25 but I don't remember what it was or how it was played.

25 is the biggest HAND you can have... (3-5's, Jack in hand and 5 as up card same suit as your Jack in hand), pegging on the other hand I don't know the highest combination, but you were probably close. I love Cribbage
