The menu on the left side of the screen when you open Google Earth has a section called "Layers" and you can activate or inactivate those items. One of those is called "Digital Globe Coverage", and when you open that option (the + sign) you can see coverage by years 2002 through 2006. They show grids on the earth when checked. I hope this helps.

Typically any time from 2001 until present day. Ussually you can at least get a general idea from the (C) statements at the bottom like (C) NavTech 2002 or the like. Also looking for landmarks such as buildings that you remember when they were built is an easy way to figure out when the images were acquired. I change cars a lot and I can often tell by what cars were at my house at the time the picture was taken.

I can see that the views of my area were taken on a summer's Sunday morning about 3-4 years ago. Others may be older and I believe some newer views have been added: I found one last week where the new view doesn't quite match the outlines of the older one.

If you look at SE6 4RN, that picture was taken in January 2006, when British Gas had dug up my road. My car is sitting outside a house 4 doors away and you can see the holes in the road.

I believe it all has to do with the population/development of the area.
It seems like the big cities get updated quite frequently while the small towns & open areas seem to have older images.

No but love to know why as my mum's house is pictured in 2005 and mine in 2001.Also very annoying that some places are blocked out completely for no apparent reason ie military etc

they update the pictures on google earth every 4 months. some come from satellite and others are just Airel views. it depends on the areas of how clear of pictures you are getting. i have found that mountain areas are pretty blurry and major cities are clear and updated first.

I looked up my house and it was built in 1999. The landscaping looked about 2 years old because we did it in stages. So I would say around 2001.

well they use old russian spy satalites to take them, and i belive google owns around ten of them so obviously it would be impossable to get a shot of the entire world in a short space of time, it proberly took around 12 months so some of the images are over a year old and some are only 1 or two months, maybe less
