Hamlet is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, and is one of his best-known and most-quoted plays. Evidence suggests that it was complete and being performed by 1600, but had some topical references added (which still survive) the following year. Hamlet is probably the most popular of Shakespeare's plays, judging by the number of productions; for example, topping the list at the Royal Shakespeare since 1879. The plot contains elements of revenge tragedy, fratricide, murder, existentialist self-questioning and supernatural intervention. With 4,042 lines and 29,551 words, Hamlet is the longest Shakespearean play.

Had you put your search engine to use, you could've saved the pts the question cost you, and found this (among other things):

"Written in 1602 (the date is arguable), Hamlet was published in 1624."

"written about 1599–1601 and published in a quarto edition in 1603 from an unauthorized text, with reference to an earlier play. The First Folio version was taken from a second quarto of 1604 that was based on Shakespeare's own papers with some annotations by the bookkeeper."

Shakespeare is thought to have written Hamlet in 1599–1601. It was published as a quarto in 1603. In 1604–05 a second quarto containing another, much fuller text superseded this first printing.
Good luck with your assignment!!

No one is really sure, but evidence shows it was being performed in 1600 so it was written around that time. By the way, of the movie versions, the Kenneth Branaugh version is terrific. Pax - C.
