Do you not feel that should these people be better educated, and exposed to culture it would widen their minds, as what they do not understand they fear? How can we help these small minded people?

the only way to help is to get rid of the "old gaurd" or the good ole boy netwrok such as exists in arkansas, but even the old fools are teaching their children that it is okay to hate. it may never be fully stamped out, but it sure as hell needs to be...peace and love to all...

To think that Racism is in mainly small town america would be very wrong. I've lived in a small town in Mississippi and I've also lived in large citys and its very apparent that racism is an equal opportunity employer. To truely understand why people are racist we have to look past skin color. Its cultural differences that create racism, not the color of our skin and it just so happens that black america culture is very different than white america and the same could be said with the latino community. If you want to get rid of racism then make it law that you can't marry someone of your own race. Eventually we'd all be the same.

If you are referring to the girl that went to Juvenile Hall in Paris, TX for SHOVING her teachers aide, she was also a repeat offender. 7 years is too much, but she should be punished for that, regardless of her race. Race has nothing to do with it. It's consequences for her actions----ASSAULT..... Outside of that, every race has racists and just about every place has them as well. Just don't let the idiots that are racist speak for the rest of the people that aren't

Racism is everywhere in America. From Honolulu to Albany.
I doubt you can even change a racist persons mind. Their mind is made up.

Small town America? If a white male walks through a big city neighborhood that is predomianately a "minority" area- can you honestly say that he would not encounter any form of racism?

I know that I as a 'white child' growing up in the south, I was the subject of many racial slurs. When I would visit upstate New York (way upstate) where my family lived in a small town.. I didn't feel hatred. I didn't feel like I didn't belong. However, when I would return to my city in the south, there it was again and again. Hatred, because I am white.
There is a consensus in this country that when we think of racism it is white on black. This is so far from the truth. Yes sure, you still have white people who really don't like people of 'any' color. However, from what I have witnessed.. black people do not like white people, they blame everything on the white person, and immediately take to thinking that the 'white people' owe them something right off. 'Katrina' was a prime example, and New Orleans today is another.
Yes, you are right; people need to be better educated and be exposed to more culture than just what is in their environment. They need to get out of the ghetto and stop perpetuating the stereotype that they themselves have brought on. Gangster, thug lifestyle. They need to be taught responsibility for one's actions, taught tolerance, patience and civility. They need to be shown that the white people aren't to blame for their problems. They are.

Racism is everywhere. Small towns, big cities, poorly educated and highly educated. It is not just an American problem, it's worldwide. Your own question reeks of racism.

it is anywhere there is a mix of races. Racism isn't so much rooted in hatred of the other as it is love for the self. We put others down in order to exalt our self.
