Does anyone know of a way to clear mucus in your windpipe/esophagus (I don't know which one it's in but it sure is awful)?

Also, any tips to suppress a cough? Any options (besides medicine)?

There are some teas that can help. Ginger tea and even some cayenne pepper can be useful. Here's what I do ...it really works! Do this twice a day. Apply wet heat such as a hot towel to your chest for 20 minutes. Then lie face down on a bed with the top half of your body off the bed. Try to cough up the mucous into a basin.
Meanwhile take lots of vitamin C to build up your immune system!

sips of luke warm water or just swallowing to suppress a cough.
best way to clear chest is to take normal size breaths in, then breath out slowly and completely (as if steaming up a window), repeat and try not to cough until the sputum is close enough to cough once. This technique is the basics of autogenic drainage, a exercise used to clear cystic fibrosis chests (among others)

I cut out all dairy from my diet, I had the same problem, it will take about week to clear, but after that you will never be mucussy again. But you must not touch dairy at all, even a small amount like milk in a coffee will bring back the symptoms, its tough but worth it. Don't take medicine for it, it may make it worse by increasing the mucus-forming gunk in your body.
