The Kimbell Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas, is an art museum founded by Kay Kimbell, an industrialist and art patron. Opened in 1972, the museum was designed by Louis I. Kahn. By the early 1980s its holdings included works of art representing many regions and countries--pre-Columbian objects; Oriental sculpture, ceramics, and scrolls; and a major collection of European art dating from prehistoric times to the time of Pablo Picasso's early career in the 20th century.
