the regular otos should cost you no more than around 3 dollars a piece max. if they charge more you are getting ripped off. i had my local pet shop sell me 3 for 3 dollars. the local walmarts have them for like 2 dollars a peice.i got mine for 1 dollar each. make sure your water conditions are right!
this is crucial. they are not a hardy fish unless everything is right. i bought 3 and 2 died within a week. the remaining one is happily munching down algae in my 5 gall tank with one betta and shrimp. hes always fat and healthy. mines hardy but my tank is settled down. get at least 2-3 and 1 maybe 2 will survive. they are already in horrible state at the pet stores. they are wild caught and then put in clean tanks with no algae. they are starved when you buy them. that is why your tank must be settled down and have algae when you put him in it. i use no algae wafers. there is no substitute for this fish. mines been happy for several months since i got him.

Zebra otos are fairly rare in my area and go for comsiderably more than regular otos. The common one's go for about $2 each and when you can find zebras they are more in the range of $5-6 each. Best of luck finding them, they are kind of rare in the hobby I think. Your best bet may be to buy from a breeder through aquabid or something similar.
