Is 10+ ghz even theoretically possible with a freezing cooler? I would think that there would be a much lower threshold because of other limiting factors if heat was removed from the equation, but my friend insists it is possible to reach 12ghz with a current, commercially available CPU.

Just to clarify, lets say we're overclocking an Intel Core 2 Duo at a base of 2.4ghz with 4mb cache and 1066mhz FSB, as the new Intels seem to be faster than the current AMDs.

i think this is implausible.. the current world record is 5.7632Ghz on a intel core 2 duo E6300. that used compressed nitrous oxide and liquid nitrogen to cool the cpu and the north bridge.

seeing as we've hit a wall with clock speed and only option for right now is to increase other areas and add more cores.

if you cool a cpu and not have it explode there is a tempature where there isn't a resistance. but you need gigawatts of power to do this to a piece of copper. and thats just farking science.

in short no. no it is not possible...yet.

Hi. I overclock with liquid cooling but have never heard of a CPU that fast, yet. I'll send a link if I find one. Looks like somewhere around 4-5 GHz may be the current limit. http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/cpuoverclocking/index.html

maximum of them lot are desirable besides the shown fact that if your in the masrkety for such enjoying cards that's truly helpful to look in at those enjoying cards Nvidia GTX295 / GTX 280 9800 X2 ATI Radeon 4870 X 2 The 9800 X2 did nicely very very nearly extra advantageous than the 280 & is with reference to a similar cost as an 295 now, the 280 would nicely be picked up for roughly 200 quid alongside with the 4870 X 2 you're making plans to play in HD i desire as those enjoying cards could be a great waste of money if not
