We HAD to get rid of the HUGE tree because it was an accident waiting to happen. We live in Northeast Florida and hurricanes are happening all the time. We have three of these big guys around our house and this was the one that would crush our home if it fell. So we cut it all the way down. We've shredded most of it, but now we're left with HUGE trunk pieces. Most of which are too heavy for just one person to pick up. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do with all this wood that's just laying in my yard now ??? I don't want to have to pay the dump a few hundred dollars to take it... I've checked with local furniture shops and they're not interested. Also, we don't have any sawmills around here either...

So now I don't really know what to do... please help ! Thanks !!

Thanks for all the answers !!! Just a little FYI... I live in a neighborhood that has a lot of elderly... I don't think that I could get away with burning it ! LOL ! Maybe barrel burn the mulch. We've called a place that makes mulch and they'll charge us MORE than the dump will. As far as cutting it... my husband and father burnt three chainsaws up over the weekend !! =) It's all worth a shot though ! =) Thanks !!!

You could advertise it on free cycle or in your local paper. You could give it away free or for a price. Not sure if its cold enough to have fires in the winter.. though someone would possibly take it.

Or campers to have bonfires with. They may have to bring a chain saw to cut it up some.

Hope this helps.

We chopped down a HUGE oak tree in out yard last week. We were afraid a storm would send it crashing through our house, since it's coming up on tornado season. (I live in Alabama)
See if you can find anyone who has a fireplace and still burns wood for heat. They might be glad to come get it and use it.
I imagine we will burn whats left of the huge tree trunk. Maybe invite friends over and have a bonfire one night. I dont know of fires like that are legal in your neighborhood, but if so that is always an option. Put an ad in a local newspaper asking if anyone would like free firewood.

Since no one is interested in wanting it....

The trunk pieces need to be cut up, would suggest a wood/log splitter, but who wants to pay 1000 to split wood.

If you can try cutting the trunk pieces more, b/c your probably going to burn them. Pieces of that size will take some time to burn away.

cut it into 16 to 18 inches long with a chain saw and sell it for firewood

Unless you find someone to pick it up for free you are either stuck with it or you will have to pay someone to haul it away.
