In my mind the animal doesn't know what is going on, is defenseless, and non deserving of its fate. Personally I like animals better than people, so thats why it hurts!!!

I think it is because we just have more feelings about an animal because they are so defenseless. They can't fight back like a human can so it is sad. I saw a commercial about saving animals on T.V. and it showed neglected, abused animals. I sat there and cried and cried over it. I have two dogs and I was going out to adopt a few more after that......We, as humans, generally go for the ones that can't take care of themselves.
That is why women like men that "get in touch with their feminine side". Gentle men are a turn on, right?

Great question. I think that we are desensitized to human emotion and/or violence. Animals however, are totally innocent and it hits us hard to see them get hurt in movies. Thank god that movie producers are no longer allowed to hurt animals on set. Back in the old days horses, cows, dogs, etc. WERE REALLY KILLED in the name of Hollywood. Thats why The American Humaine Society has to be present at the filming of any movies involving animals these days. Things are better.

I totally feel the same way!!! Like in that movie Butterfly Effect" with Ashton Kutcher, and there is that scene with the bad little boy and he puts Kutcher's dog in the burlap sack and lights it on fire? I was in tears, literally sobbing, and I wanted to get up and walk out of the theater. But take a movie like "Braveheart" or "Saving Private Ryan", with blood and guts and body parts everywhere, and I'm not even phased. I think it's because we see animals as defenseless and innocent, and people as not so much of those things...

I was wondering if a lot of people felt that way! I guess I do it because animals are innocent, they don't understand what's going on, and they often haven't done anything to deserve that. I know it's just a film, but...
That being said, I have no problem seeing a real tiger (in a documentary), or any other animal, kill an animal. I don't know, it just seems normal that animal kills other animals.

I'm the same way. I think it has something to do with the notion that animals are innocent and unwitting victims, whereas we can always find something to dampen our opinion of another human being.
Things would be a lot different if animals could talk. You'd hear a lot more "That dog is a real jerk" and so forth in conversations.

I don't really know me and my friend are the same way. I guess for some reason you get emotionally attached to animals more then humans. Like in Old Yeller, I cried cause I felt like it was my own dog, and King Kong, it was like it was my own pet. I think this is the kind of thing that happens to all pet owners. You just know what the owner of the pet is probably going through.

Oh, I hate it when the horse falls down in a movie. That's the worst for me. I think it's because you associate love and innocence with the animal.

It's probably the innocence and vulnerability of the animal which in some ways is probably similar to how your see a child. Seeing the animial get killed disturbs your sense of responsiblity and protectiveness. You wouldn't have the same feeling about an indepentent self-sufficient adult.

If you love animals their death is final, very personal and alarming. You cringe because you're a caring human being.
The only things I have no feelings for are the common house fly. I don't hunt, trap or fish. We have deer at our front window. My niece and husband have bears in the summer.
Movies are just that. Portraits of someones thoughts.

Because animals are Innocent...They do not understand our world or the dangers in it. They trust without question..They believe we humans want let things hurt them..Then when something happens that's out of our control,we wish we could have prevented it...
