Who cares what the reaction of the public is? The only "public" that counts is the population of Beverly Hills, and if they vote him as mayor by a majority of votes, then that's all you need to know.
Why is his country of origin relevant? Implying that there's a problem associated with birth in Iran is logically the same as guilt by association.

Unless California suddenly became a city instead of a state he is not likely to become the "Mayor" of California... If however, a citizen of Iranian origins could win the elections he could become Governor of California, though I doubt even California is ready for an Iranian born governor!

Hey, I hope when you join the Air Force they keep you away from the Ammo dump.
We have a Governor in California, just like every other state.
I've never heard of Jimmy Delshed.
EDIT - OK, since you mean mayor of Beverly Hills, I'm gonna go with, "Who Cares?". It's not like the BH mayor has any real influence over LA politics.

In the real world, people would demand a higher level of scrutiny concerning a candidate who was born in a country with which we are presently on hostile relationships with.
However, in California, that just makes him all the more worthy of being elected! All he needs now is to make speeches about how he suffered growing up under the US embargo, and he's got it MADE!
