www.childwelfare.gov

This could be construed as "abandonment."
Research it to your heart's content (I assume you meant USA states, not Australia?)

Most states do not specify a minimum age limit through law -- but some do. This is because at around 12 years of age, children's maturity levels can vary widely. However, virtually all states have legislation and/or administrative rules that provide guidelines to help parents determine if their kids can be left alone. I couldn't find a website that compares them all side by side. But you can probably find them on your states child and family services website.

Minimum age requirements for unattended children generally range from 12 to 13 years of age. The National SAFE KIDS Campaign recommends that children are not left alone before the age of 12. Area child protection services can provide information on state child abuse and neglect laws that address the age

I don't think there's a law, But it is based on common sense for example children under 13 shouldn't be left at the home unattended

There is no law that states how old a child had to be to stay home by themselves. I'm sure there are recommendations... but no LAW. I guess parents just have to trust their children.. and children have to show responsibilty... (no sneaking out, no drinking, partys, ect.)
