If the sky is clear, you can see Saturn, in the constellation of Leo. Venus is also out, I think its in or near Pisces this month.
The link below will take you a page where you download a map of the sky in PDF format.
Happy Hunting.

because you say you talked about them again 20 minutes later i could say you've been searching at Jupiter (interior the east) and Venus (interior the west). the area Station and the go back and forth bypass over a lot swifter than that, extra like intense flying plane. because the Earth turns the sky seems to rotate at about 15 ranges in accordance to hour, so in 20 minutes Jupiter and Venus (and each thing else interior the sky) could have moved about 5 ranges. it really is really sizeable, extraordinarily for bright gadgets close to to the horizon. take a seem again on yet another nighttime quickly. Venus and Jupiter will nonetheless be in a lot an same positions relative to at least one yet another. besides the indisputable fact that because the days positioned on on Venus will be in the route of the horizon at the same time as it first is composed of your interest and Jupiter should be slightly extra round to the south (because you're interior the Northern Hemisphere.)

Is it changing colors and sparkling like mad? That could be Sirius, which is the brightest star in the sky and should likely be in the west where you are right now.
I have twice won bets with people who swore it was too colorful--or colourful, if you're in Blighty ;)--to be a star, and they lost when the thing was still there about an hour later.
Venus is bright, but not blue. Sirius is predominantly blue because it's so hot. Is Orion (the three close linear stars) nearby? If Orion is a little up and to the left, you're probably seeing Sirius.

For heaven's sake. Have a look at my latest question which asks why there is so much ignorance of basic viewing of the sky.
IT IS VENUS.
IT HAS BEEN IN THAT PART OF THE SKY FOR MONTHS
IT IS VISIBLE MOST OF THE TIME, IN EVENING OR EARLY MORNING.
IT IS THE THIRD BRIGHTEST OBJECT IN THE SKY, AFTER THE SUN AND MOON.
Where have you been hiding. I wouold have thought Orkney was fairly gentle on light pollution.
PS :
The garbage answers above.
1. Siriius is not in the west., and is only a fraction as bright as Venus
2. A satellite, and especially the ISS move across the whole sky and are gone in a matter of minutes - 10 minutes at most.

At night that would be Venus, at sunset that would be the sun, any other times that would be your imagination.
