i have NO idea what to do with my life. Im 16, sitting my highers and A levels soon (ahh) and have absloutely no idea what i want to do with my life...and before people start saying im too young too know....no! everyone else knows what they want to do lol! Im pretty good at sciences and i like bio best so i thought maybe a course that involves biology but none of them seem to have great career prospects and tbh working in a lab isnt really where i want to be in 10 years time.id love to work on a amgazine like vogue, but i dont know how to get started?! help! both my parents used to be journalists, but i dont think id like to do it as a profession, i just have no idea! There's nothing in particular that seems to interest me as far as uni courses go....i dont even know if i should go to uni! My dad never went to uni and im thinking that another possibility would be to skip it and just go strtaight to work like he did (he's now very successful so it doesnt seem like such a bad idea) §

Your really quite young and you should just take your time to figure out what to do with you LIFE? Should you go straight to work or further your education, is the two roads your trying to decide on, and don`t know what to do?
Here`s what some young people do; they work right after high school, then go back in education(collage, etc,) after expriencing work and seening how the world(work place) is eg: you get a job in an office and after the work exprience you go to a collage that give I.T courses which you use in the office. You can get a job in a place and start at the bottom and end up at the top by work exprience eg:clerk-manager.
So like I said its really up to you! the one who`s going to spend their life working for a living and not neccessarily the people around you, that are trying to advise you what to do. So surf the net try talking to your parents and friends for their opinion and make your decision, to tell you the turth its all about the money when working. Hope I helped brighten your road.

Don't skip college. All jobs above low salary range really require a 2 year degree at least. If you graduate college you WILL make more money.
Now as far as course of study goes. You will most likely change your mind a few times. For now focus on what you like to do. If you like the sciences go for it. It will be a lot of hard work, but if you enjoy it you will be happy.
I went to university for Chemistry at first then ended up graduating with a BS in Mathematics. Not a huge difference, but I found out through the course of that that I hate working in a boring lab like a scientist. Most of that work tends to be repetitive lab work unless you are a well qualified engineer with a masters degree.
My suggestion to you is:
You're young. Try everything you like. If you want to check out working as a journalist ask your parents to hook you up with one of thier co-workers and see if you can get a mini internship for a week or two. Volunteer for it.
Check out some local laboratories. Go talk to a couple of profs at the local college see if you can sit in on a lab class.
After some trial and error you will nail it down.
Most of your friends who "know" what they want to do will end up doing something different.
I know many who have graduated with a degree in one area and end up working in a completely different field.
We often don't have a clue what we want to do for a long long time. Some people don't figure it out until they are about 40 years old. Don't feel bad if you haven't figured it out yet. You will someday. You don't need a single career for your entire life.
Best of luck

Rather than setting your heart on one specific career (since you're not really sure), why not just follow a subject path that interests you? You could build up your knowledge and experience in this area and then, further down the line when you're older and wiser, you'll be qualified in this area and will hopefully then find a job you really want to do.
If it's journalism you're after and you genuinely do want to do it (not just because Mum and Dad did), you need to focus on studying media and English Language and Literature and then find out what other courses you need to continue this.
Good luck

I feel like you are limiting yourself. Aside from that though working for a magazine is being a journalist, that word doesn't just mean newspapers. And it's alright not to know what to do at 16. Heck, my brother is 24 and still has no clue what he wants to do with his life, it's ok. Your father's apth isn't for everyone but if that's your choice then go for it.
Just keep in mind that everyone changes what they want to do in life. I went through a number of ideas before I decided I wanted to do for my life.

No one can tell you what to do. I think you should chill out and do something later. Most people I know who went to uni straight after school ended up changing their career path along the way because they were too young to know what they want to do.
I think you have to live a little, work in rubbish jobs to really understand what it is that you want.
