Centuries ago, the people of my religion could betroth a daughter to a man at 2 years old. (Granted she had to grow up and become a teenager to get married to him sometimes at 12 or 13 years old, but they would be considered husband and wife all the time they were betrothed) Do you think that was acceptable? If not, what do you think the minimum age of marriage for a woman should be? Or for a man? Also, in the state or province you live in, what is the legal minimum age? I'm just curious to see if people's attitudes have changed since a couple hundred years ago.

the minimum age in Michigan is 18, without parental consent.

I think the minimum age should be 25. Too many people get married at a young age and they still haven't figured themselves out, let alone trying to figure out their spouses.

I am sooo different now, at 32, than I was when I was 18, or even 21 (when I got married). I had low self esteem, I had no idea what I wanted to do as a career in my life.... and life was JUST beginning for me and I put a stop to it by legally binding myself to another person who pulled me down financially.

I think marriage, for the most part, is overrated. It's HARD WORK and most people go into it blindly, God knows I did.

you are silly. Of course peoples attitudes have changed. Don't you think it is a little sick to rob someone of their free will and childhood. I think 18 for sure legal adult age. No matter the religion, state or province.

Here it's 18 without a parents consent and honestly at times I think it should be older, but in reality how can you stop someone that's considered an adult from getting married? You can't so I'll go with the states requirement of 18

I guess the minimum for girls should be 16 and for guys same thing, unless of course, the father thinks differently.

I think both should be at least adult age in order to marry. It's 18 in Ohio. I can't really say when they are mature enough, or responsible enough because many people don't ever grow up or become responsible.

There are minimum ages I think women have to be 17 or18 and men the same. I personally wish it was lower, so that men and women won't have to due with the sex...especially in dating relationships.

No, I think you should be able to marry whatever guy/girl you choose. Because, you may not like the looks of whom they chose, for you.

I think 16 should be the minimum... My mother-n-law was married at 16.

Minimum age for women--27, for men--30.

By that time, person should be pretty well established in their job or career, student loans paid off, have a place of their own, and a sense of who they are.

I guess if her father found the right man for her that young, then he should give her away, and she should marry him when her father tells her to.

here the legal age is 18.
