I was driving when i noticed a funny smell i assumed that it was from the tires or maybe just the ocean. The fallowing day the smell got worse i found it coming from the trunk, i then opened it and realized that smoke was coming out of my battery as if it where a muffler. Keep in mind that my battery is in the trunk (92 BMW). I turned the car off once i got home a bit of smoke still came out. I worried that i might have breathed the smell to long but i feel fine. Could there be a reason why this happened i purchased this Energizer battery 2 months ago. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like the battery is being grounded out. Meaning that there is a short circuit somewhere. You need to take the car to someone that works on eletrical systems of automobiles and have them trace the short circuit. A short circuit can cause your battery to explode throwing acid everywhere and ruining your clothes or worse your face.

It sounds like you have a charging system problem. By that I mean overcharging. Be very carefull as that gas coming from the battery is very explosive. Stop by any repair shop and they will put a voltmeter on it to confirm the problem.

New does not mean not bad, it has a short causing the acid to boil that is what you smell like bad eggs. Take the battery back.

Possible short in the battery or the alternator is over charging the battery or both.

Take it back.

Energizer makes great dry cell batteries, but lousy car batteries.

You are lucky to still have a car that isn't a burnt crisp! TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC!
