Well, not all couples share a bed. My husband sleeps on the couch by his own choice (he has a bad back, and prefers it there) while I sleep in the bedroom. There's no real barrier to intimacy, either of the cuddling variety or the sexual kind, just personal preference.
Most people who share a bed as a couple do so either because they like having someone next to them or because it's what their parents did, so it's perceived as the cultural norm. There's no real sense of confusion for kids-after all, whatever they grow up with is normal to them, and if they have questions, it's best to answer them honestly and openly.
If you prefer sleeping alone, then that's your choice. I'd make sure you talk to your spouse (either present or future) and explain why you want that, to avoid any hurt feelings and/or concerns about cheating, etc. All in all, it's not a bad thing, or at least, doesn't have to be.

Good Question, I guess security, you know, when I had a girlfriend and I was going out on a business trip, she did not want to be home at night, much less sleep alone, I guess it's for security reasons, though you are right, we slept alone for for some time, before now. To me if you don't have a big enough bed, crowding becomes a problem, I hate being smothered at at times.

Because intimacy is so much more than sex. It is wonderful to be able to just be able to put a hand out and touch someone that you love. Sometimes I want to snuggle and frequently he will just want a hug in the middle of the night. It is a great feeling when someone you love, sound asleep, responds and holds you when you need it. That is intimacy. It is so much nicer to talk about a problem when you are lying in bed next to someone and you can almost whisper. I think you will understand when you have someone you love in your arms, you never want to let them go. I hope this helpsâ¥â¥

This is funny. I've been married for 17 years, but what I wouldn't GIVE to sleep in my OWN bed when it's not time for intimacy and it's time for sleep!! Tell my husband would ya? Good luck, he's from the old school and he'll throw God in there too.

Would you want to have to go to a separate room or even get up to a different bed after being intimate? Plus, I don't think it would make sense to make love and then just go separate ways... what about cuddling and just caressing each other? isn't that all part of having a partner?

Interesting question. I do it because I like having my husband next to me at night. Knowing that he is next to me and laying close to each other feels great, regardless of whether we are intimate or not. I guess it's just what each person prefers.

Some couples do, others don't. It's a preference thing for each couple, to some degree.

So that:
When they are newly married they can make love immediately they feel the need to do it.
After few years of marriage they can kick each other or fart on each other immediately they feel the need to do it, and pretend that they did it in their sleep.

Because if you have kids and you sleep in seperate rooms, and then one night sleep together then they would be suspicious.
