'misunderstood' seems to be a better fit for this situation. Although a secondary definition of "mistook" is 'misunderstand', mistook would better fit in this sentence, "I mistook him for Orlando Bloom."

You "mistake" someone for someone else.
eg. Looking from the window,she mistook him for Billy.
But you "misunderstand" what someone SAYS.
eg. He misunderstood what she was trying to say.

Both of them are correct but the better one is easier for a reader to understand and it's better English.
