Why are so many people obsessed with celebrities?

I mean nighty percent of the magazines are celeb mags and lots of people like reading about them but why? Aren't they just people that have a proffesion of singing/acting (generally)? I dunno I just don't get it...

it's what they feel they can never have - so they indulge in it : wealth,beauty,intrigue,romance,fame............i think they need to get a life myself.
