i am always reminded of when i went on holiday to France many years ago and we went to a local fete and they had a stall there. It was a circular stall with a load of ducks waddling round and the stall owner gave you a metal ring that had corks all the way around it, about the size of a saucer.
The idea was that you threw the ring around the ducks neck and any that you got around the ducks neck, you won the duck.

The thing i remember best is that when the ducks were walking about they held their heads high, when a cork ring was thrown at them, they did actually 'duck' to avoid them! I will always remember it for 2 reasons.
1. i worked out why they are called ducks
2. i never wanted to play hook a duck at the local fair after that
