Yes it can be
A MAC address is not assigned by the router!!!

A MAC address is composed of 16 bits, 8 bits to identify the company who made it, and 8 bits for the companys ID scheme. Each MAC address is unique, if it adhears to the IEEE standards.

But its will be hard to track since the MAC address doesn't get transmitted over the Internet as an IP address does. It only gets stored at Layer 2, not Layer 3-7 of the OSI model.
It can be tracked but it will take a lot of resources to tell all the ISPs in the area to look for a single MAC address in a computer.

Let me get this straight - You want to track down a wireless card so you can DO WHAT ?? Confront people who broke into your house ??

Yeah, that's a real bright idea..... Lock the door next time, cut your losses, and be thankful you weren't home.

Good Luck

nope.
There is no way anyone is going to spend time tracking a wireless card that you can get for less than $30.
Claim it on your insurance.

no there isn't anyway to track it. the mac address is given not by the card, but by the router or modem. if the card is used, it will have a different mac address when hooked up. sorry.

Your chances are pretty slim. Write it off or claim insurance.
