Pragmatism is a practical approach that seeks to avoid dead ends by evaluating things on the evidence of their outcome. It is most associated with William James who produced a pragmatic defence of religion: if people behave as though life were cohesive and purposeful, they help to make it so.

Behaviourism is the denial of mental states or essences, ethics, and anything observed by introspection.
