We are getting ready to take our kids to Chicago's Science and Industry Museum and they have this display there on the human body. Would you let you five year old see this display? My husband says it would be ok and he is taking our nine year old. But I think at five.. it would be too weird for her. The human body display shows the different muscles organs bones and so forth disected.. real human bodies.

No. I wouldn't take the nine-year-old either. I'm an adult, and I've seen a lot of horror movies, and it was too weird for me -- while most of the things have been sufficiently "prepared" to not look like a person any more, there was one sectioned piece of a woman that, frankly, looked like a part of a dead person. After seeing that, I was done for the day.

My son, who is going to be 7 in a week, has been bringing home biology and body books since he was 5 in kindergarten. He loves anatomy, and he would be entralled with such an exhibit. It depends on the kid I suppose. Personally, mine would love it.

well to be honest i think that it will be fine to bring your daughter in and see it. education does hurt to start young. my baby sister is 5 but she have learn most of her body parts at about 4. exposing your daugther to it might start her interest to learn more about it and that is a good thing. i also volunteer in the Science Discovery Center in California and there are always kid of all ages and they are willing to learn when some of the kid don't.

I think it would be a good outing and feel it may be beneficial for her in later years and she will develop a better understanding of the human body.

Where is the harm? Why is it weird? Children are fascinated by what happens when they cut themselves, where poop comes from, holding their breath, etc. You can help explain through such an exhibition. Then they won't think it is weird.

I would. You could use this as a teaching moment.
