I was prescribed Prometrium after having a missed period for four months. I take 200mg of Prometrium for 12 nights for 3 months. I have just finished my second cycle of prometrium and my period came like clock work. I have one more cycle to do in April and my doctor said that alot of the time women will end up pregnant while taking this or soon after..i was wondering how often does this actually happen? has anybody gotten pregnant while being on prometrium?

Yes, I have. I also know several other women who have.

Prometrium is frequently prescribed for women with low progesterone levels who are trying to conceive; in that context, women often get pregnant while taking prometrium.

That said, I am skeptical about what your doctor said -- or, to clarify, I've never ever heard any such claim from an OB or a reproductive endocrinologist. While I'm sure your doctor is being honest with you and has seen it happen, I do not believe it's something that happens with great frequency (if it were, prometrium would be prescribed for women having trouble conceiving). But the extra progesterone certainly isn't going to inhibit conception!

Best of luck to you.

My doctor gave me prometruim after not having my period for three months. He gave me this so I could have day 3 blood tests taken. He also stated that prometruim does not induce ovulation. It's ovulation that you need to get pregnant. If you are not ovulating you can't get pregnant. My doctor also stated that he often prescribes Prometrium to teens because they are not looking to get pregnant (They need Prometruim because it is not good for a female body to go more than three months without their period.) Have you had blood tests done? Your doctor should be able to find the problem with blood tests. If your doctor isn't willing to find the root of the problem, maybe it's time to find a new doctor!

After getting my blood tests back my doctor thinks I may have PCOS (My LH levels were slightly elevated.) I don't have any symptoms of PCOS other than the irregular cycles. My doctor is going to try me on Medformin....He said that there is a link to Medormin and helping with ovulation. (It's really a diabetic medication.) I asked him what I could do if that didn't work...and he said that he would try me on Medformin in addition to clomid. (The medformin to prevent a miscarriage.)

I wish I could tell you if this worked...but I'm just about to start it! I hope this helps and you become pregnant soon! =)
