You guys are killin' me. Scoring aside, MJ is the more complete player. His mere presence on the court, whether or not he was scoring, helped his team. They've talked to players from the team, and with Jordan, they felt unstoppable. Do you think the Lakers feel unstoppable with Kobe? It's been done this season...32 times already.
Also, 81 points in a game against a horrible team (2005-2006 Raptors). Then he scores 65, 50, 60, and 50 against 4 terrible teams. TERRIBLE!
The only truly great game he played was against Dallas last year when he scored 62, and even then, Dallas played a terrible game, was outrebounded, turned over the ball more, and had barely had 2 players in double digits (leading scorer for Dallas was Dirk with 18). He did it against a good team, but Dallas didn't show up for that game. Not to take too much away from Kobe, since I couldn't score even 40 points against the worst team in the NBA.
His accomplishments are great and all, but not on the same level as Jordan. Jordan could score over 60 in the playoffs and lead them to victory. Kobe can score 53 or 54 against the Suns in the playoffs and still lose by more than 7.
Also, I'm sorry, but people saying that Kobe was the best scorer of all time in the NBA are outrageous! Wilt Chamberlin averaged 50.4 points for a SEASON! He played 80 games that season! He also averaged over 20 rebounds every season for his career. He is ranked in 7 different places (including 1-3) on the 20 best scoring seasons of any player. MJ is on there three times as well. Baylor is on there 4 times. Kobe is on there once. Hell, the great Rick Barry scored more in a season than Kobe ever has.
Kobe has scored over 30 ppg for a season 3 times in his career. MJ did is 7 times...in a ROW! He did it 8 times total.
In three seasons (including this one), Kobe has averaged 32.1 ppg, 5.3 assists, and 6.0 rebounds a game.
During MJ's 8 best scoring seasons, he averaged 32.9 ppg, 6.1 assists, and 6.4 rebounds.
Not only was MJ a better scorer than Kobe in their best seasons (so far), but he averaged more assists and rebounds in those seasons than Kobe. Not only was he putting up over 30 ppg, but he had a season where he averaged 32.5 ppg, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. That's freaking amazing.
Why not compare FG% as well? During MJ's entire career, he averaged 49.7% FG shooting. Kobe still hasn't achieved a single season of over 50% shooting.
In their respective careers, MJ averages better FG%, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, less TOs, less personal fouls, and more ppg.
On the other hand, Kobe averages better 3 pt % by 0.012 (0.327 to 0.339) and better FT% by 0.002 (0.835 to 0.838)
I'm sorry, but until Kobe can show that he can be more of an all around player like Jordan was, I can't agree with him being as complete as Jordan. He's only 28 though. Maybe in the next 7 years he will prove me wrong, but for now, MJ still stands alone as the icon of NBA greatness. And for all of you people who watched him play in the early 90s...I wanna be like Mike! (cue music)

Kobe doesn't suck lol. He isn't MJ... yet. He still has to win a title w/o Shaq.
A few responses to your comments:
1.True MJ has scoring titles but Kobe can get them, too. Both r great scorers
2.MJ is the better defender w/o question. Kobe can play D. One of the best guards WHEN is plays D
3.See #2
4.see #2
5.True but Jordan teams were better. Lets not forget Jordan jacked up a lot of shots early in his career.
6.Jordan had great teams. Plus those teams great defenders. Having a sidekick named Pippen doesn't hurt
7.Yeah but Kerr could of done that on any good team. Peep his stats after he left the Bulls. No one was guarding him out there on the 3pt line
8.Actually,It wasn't until Pippen came, they started winning titles. Jordan has no rings w/o Pippen
9.Kobe had that whole trial thing going. Flying back and forth and still putting up big #'s
10. MJ is the greatest(Well he's the best I've saw. Some agrue Wilt,Russell or The Big O was the greatest)
Yeah,he's close to MJ,to be fair. Closer than some will admit. Hell,MJ himself would say Kobe is close to his skill level. Is Kobe better? Not @ this time.

It appears that everyone is either a Bulls fan or a Lakers fan on here. Well I'm neither. I'm a Pistons fan, and one of the biggest Jordan Haters there are. However, as much as it pains me to say it, Jordan was the greatest all around player to ever play in the NBA.
Lakers fans will say "He had Pippen", "He had a great supporting staff". Yeah, well so did Kobe until he ran them out of town. Shaq was no slouch! P.S. I cant stand Shaq either.
Its true that Kobe is emulating what Jordan did when it comes to moves and such. There is no doubt Kobe can score. Heck, I dont know if there is a current player I would rather have the ball in a clutch, but he is no Jordan. (Neither is James for that matter)
Jordan is a one and only. He changed the game as we know it. Kobe, James, and everyone else is just trying to catch him. Until someone changes the game in a way that either matches or supersedes what Jordan did than, there is no "other Jordan"
Still GO PISTONS!

Steve Kerr led the league in 3-point shooting in 1994-95, the year Jordan returned for only seventeen games. Kerr also led the league in 3's in 1989-90, WITH CLEVELAND, so Jordan had nothing to do with making him better. He was already a tremendous 3-point shooter when he came to the Bulls. But nice try, anyways.
In 1989, Coach Doug Collins decided to try Jordan out at point guard, figuring he would draw alot of defenders and pass it off. The only problem was Jordan doesn't like to pass and fought any attempt to make him do so.
He ended up with 8 assists per game, good enough for 10th place, the only time in his career he EVER made the top ten in that category. The Bulls almost didn't make the playoffs that year either. And the fact that Collins tried to force Jordan to pass more cost Collins his job.
The fact is, that Jordan was the most selfish player in history. Both he and Wilt are tied for first in ppg, with Jordan having many more attempts, despite Wilt playing more minutes.

"Yukuza36".....Jordan scored 63pts against the Celtics in 1986, and couldn't lead them to victory. Nice try, though.
Oh...the classic "flu game"......should've won an Oscar for that one....lol

I am a huge Kobe fan but I have to Amitt MJ is the best whoever played. The only thing Kobe is better at is jump shooting. But Kobe is way better than WADE, LEBRON, and defently Tmac. I remember when Tmac was in Orlando and he won the scoring title yet had the worst record in the NBA, thats a BALLHOG

Kobe is a scorer, period, like Dominique, Alex English, Adrian Dantley, Bernard King. He is not a complete player in any sense of the word. MJ is by far superior to Kobe. However, as far as complete, that would be Magic Johnson. He could do it at all five positions.

well theyre both good but i have to agree w/ the guy who defends Kobe
i mean people dont like Kobe cus he doesnt pass the ball but when he does most time the other guys give it away or miss
Kobe does not have a good a team to work with as Jordan did
and well Jordan was great and had high scoring but he did mostly dunks and lay ups
Kobes points come from long range
so i think Jordan was a good team player but Kobe is just a better scorer

Sounds like you got your mind made up there kid. Well I have to defend Kobe from all you haters. Kobe does not have a wingman like Pippen (Odom is not as good as Scottie not at any aspects except passing) Jordan played against lack luster Guards (NAME 10 OF THEM THAT HAD MORE THAN A 3 YEAR GREAT RUN....EXACTLY YOU CAN'T) Kobe has scored 81 (DUH GREAT OFFENSE!) Ohh and umm Magic Johnson one of the best passers of all time played for who??? The Lakers so do you think Kobe can touch that umm hell no. Kobe is his own player as was Jordan and i bet your one of the ignorant people who say Lebron James is the next Jordan (James doesn't have a 3 point shot.....KOBE DOES) ohh and yes Kobe did have Shaq..but did Shaq win with other Guards other than Wade??? Nope he didn't and Yes Wade is better than James (look at wades hand oooo ya a ring).

Rusty Jordan's assists record for the Bulls franchise is ONLY the result of his playing more games in a Bulls uniform than anyone else... the leaders in games played for da Bulls are:
Rusty - 930
Scottie - 856
Sloan - 696
Paxson - 645
Boerwinkle - 635
These are the only players to play 600 games in a Bulls uniform. As you can see, Rusty played 234 more games than any other Bulls guard. Rusty's played 9% more games than Scottie, but 33% more than any other Bulls player.
As I explained to you in another question, Rusty ranks 8th in Bulls history in assists/game.
But since you claim he wasn't a ball hog (even though he led the NBA in FGA an all time record 9 times), where does Rusty rank in FGA in Bulls history?
Rusty - 21,686
Scottie - 12,444
Love - 11,497
Sloan - 9,357
Walker - 7,374
No one else is over 6,400. Rusty has taken 74% more FG than any player in Bulls history.
Holy cow, I had no idea he was THAT much of a ball hog.
FGA per game:
Rusty - 23.3
Love - 19.4
Rose - 18.5
Mercer - 18.2
Rodgers - 16.8
Even on a per game basis, he takes 20% more shots than anyone who ever wore a Bulls uniform.
Notice how he holds the record for career assists by a Bull, but only ranks 8th in assists/game... however, even though he (obviously) holds the record for FGA by a Bull, he even dwarfs everyone's total on a 'per game' basis... in other words, he doesn't hold the Bulls record for FGA because he played the most games... he holds the record because he was a ball hog. Twenty per cent more shots per game than anyone else... that's a lot.

But wow, you're right...I forgot about the day Rusty had the sniffles and played anyway!
Bill Russell once played a finals with a broken ankle, and Willis Reed went out and played on one leg against Wilt in a game 7...but hey, hats off to Rusty for playing with a bad case of the sniffles.

Kobe is good, and a great offensive player, but he is not Michael Jordan. Still, we need to recognize Kobe as being great in his own right. No one will ever be Michael Jordan. And even if someone was that great, MJ would let us know who that person was, and we'd know outright as well. :)
