I am from NY and no we do not hate people from the south up here! I dont know where you are getting your information from. Aside from a few (good-humored) jokes about your accent, you won't have any problems. You have probably heard that New Yorkers are really "rude" and "unfriendly" right? Well to people from the south, we may seem rude and unfriendly because honestly we are very blunt. We say it like it is and we don't sugar-coat anything, if you get my meaning. We don't mean anything by it, it's just they way we are. My fiance is from KY (which is technically a southern state btw) and I spend a lot of time down there visiting his family. I have also been to other states in the south (AL, FL, GA, NC, WV, SC to name a few) and I can tell you that as much as northerners pick on southerners (ie calling them rednecks and such) I have heard my share of Yankee jokes as well. Ofcourse there are jerks everywhere but for the most part it is just harmless teasing. There are "northerners" and "southerners" in both halves of the country and I can assure you that every single person you meet up here has family or knows atleast SOMEONE from the south so it is rediculous to say that we hate southerners!

Changing tags in 30 days is a legal requirement so don't play with that the fine is stiffer than not getting the tags. I don't know where you got the information that "they hate people from the south." That is just ignorant and a myth that needs to be busted right now! There are millions of people in the state of New York and they do not think with one mind. They don't all hate anyone or love anyone and the fact is that if you are bright and intelligent and willing to treat people with mutual dignity and respect you will find that you can get along in the state of New York and elsewhere. Stop smearing people with your ill conceived prejudices and give New Yorkers the chance to get to know you. It's all about good manners.

Don't feel special about them hating you. Most everyone in New York hates everyone else, including their fellow New Yorkers. That's why everyone is grumpy here. If I were you, I'd stay in the south. At least they're nice down there and not full of themselves.

I don't think you'll have more problems that anybody else has. I think it's pretty much up to you , how you treat others.
