My uncles could get in trouble with the cops. He is wheel chair bound and has a helper monkey. But when he goes out the monkey pick- pockets people in the street and hides wallets and purses in his chair. One weekend alone he found 7 wallets in his chair. The family are afraid the cops might think he's trained the monkey to do this. My Uncles always posts back the wallets and purses. He loves the monkey and doesn't want to part with it. Any suggestions?

well first of all i would try finding a trainer in your area. or contact the place that you got him from they might be able to correct the bad behavior. if you didn't get him from somewhere that gave him professional training, then get him some or leave him at home as a pet not a helper. you can't punish and animal that was never trained to do what you are asking of it, which could be why he is misbehaving he is confussed about what he is supposed to do. second of all i would contact the police when you find the monkey stolen wallets and explain the situation and i'm sure they will see where he is coming from. as long as you see a pro. dogs are actually much more productive in this position. they are able to follow better commands and are basically better behaved than a monkey. who does have better range with physical help, it is unable to controll impulses and behave it's self. most monkeys have a very high intelligence level andit is harder to controll an animal will the iq of a toddler. you know how unruley they can be. good luck.

How is he not seeing the monkey do this? I am assuming that monkey does not go out without him and steal wallets and bring them back and hide them in the chair. I thought the helper monkeys were on a leash when they went out in public, much like the service dogs. Are you sure your Uncle is telling the family the whole truth? Does this monkey only do this when he and your uncle are by themselves in public or has anyone else in your family seen the monkey do this? Does the monkey steal from members in the family when they are around? I think I would ask a few more questions before I blamed the monkey.

Corrective training for the monkey is the only way, the owner is always responsible for the conduct of any pet.
