whatever ring they get you is supposed to be a symbol of your love, and it might be rude to say that you dont like it, but then again your the one living with it for the rest of your life. To ask for a bigger ring is rude but if the ring is just plain ugly then maybe you can say something about it

The ring should at least fit. Most guys do their homework prior and get the right size or a ring slightly bigger which can then be fitted.
As for the actual ring it stays the same. If not it can be placed on a finger that will appreciate it.

I personally think that the man should pick it out and should go no bigger than what he can truly afford. Maybe some input from the woman but really it is just supposed to be a token of love not a down payment on life together!

The size shouldn't matter because later in life you can trade up, but the shape and cut should. If he picks something you don't like why would you keep it forever? You want a ring that you will wear forever like your MARRIAGE

No, because the truth is the woman is lucky to receive anything from her fiance because the money should go to her father as a dowry. However, I would want to give my girl a ring.

I think, if you're the one who's going to wear it, for the rest of your life, then he should ask, what style and type of diamond do you like?
My husband and I talked about this after 25yrs of marriage. I didn't know back then, what I liked. I just knew, that I didn't like big diamonds or yellow gold. Now, I know I like marquis diamonds (still, not BIG) and yellow gold rings...
(I like yellow gold, now...)

My "person" says when the time comes that I need to pick out the ring because I have to wear it.

you should be happy because someone loves you and picked it out for you. but - if they really know you they would know what type of ring you would prefer. also take into consideration the money issue. example - my ex husband got me a big marquis diamond engagement ring in yellow gold that looked like something my mom would wear(hated it). my new fiancee got me an antique looking small cluster in white gold - i would've picked it myself. so--- i just think if they know your taste you will like it.

I feel that it should be discussed between the couple. The choice should be made together, it'll make the ring more meaningful.
