Ok I have a gateway GT5040
I installed an...ati x1600pro gfx card which says 350 watts or more *recomended* but it works ok & play's games well.
but my power supply is 300 watts. #1 is that ok? ps. I've had it for almost a yr and it still works fine.

Well any way my main question is I want to get a Nvidia 7950gt oc to replace the ati one. Well that too says 350 watts.
Soo...#2Would it make it any worse to put that card in instead of my other one?

And lastly...#3 Could maybe someone who knows what there doin see the specs of the x1600pro & 7950gt...and make sure that they both would be ok in my Computer? THX A billion

just upgrade your power supply, they're not that expensive, just make sure you get a good name brand, if you have too weak of a power supply you will have sysytem shutdowns.

nVidia's pretty nice, good choice. NO IT WOULD NOT KILL THE CARD OR YOUR COMPUTER! The graphics card might just run a littttle bit slower and be a little less efficient.

What they recommend is not what has to be. I know that because I play Call of Duty 2 on my Mac, it recommends like 1 GB of RAM but I have only 512 MB. So it wouldn't kill to only have a 300 watt port. If it says "minimum requirements = 350 watt port" then don't use the card cuz it won't work.
