He is taking his morning nap around 10am and will sleep either 1-2hours. Sometimes if he sleeps for one hour he will sleep again around 2pm. If he sleeps 11/2-2hours he will fight the second nap. He usually is in bed by 8 and sleeps till 6:30 or 7:00. How do you make the transition from one nap to two? Would like the one nap to be right after lunch.

When babies are taking two naps, the second nap is usually later, like 2 or 3. Nine month olds should still be taking two naps. The second nap usually goes around two+yrs, generally. A typical two/three year old would wake up around 6 or 7 and then take a nap around 12 or 1. Some babies do fight the naps but that doesn't mean that they don't need them. Did you mean to say "make the transition from 2 to 1 nap?" Or did you mean what you said, that you are trying to keep two naps? The second nap can't really be after lunch if your baby generally sleeps at 10. The fact that he still takes a two hour nap at ten is a good sign that he needs two naps. Its when she doesn't need that ten o'clock nap, and one way to know that he doesn't need it is if he only sleeps for a short while. If he is still taking two hours at ten, I would keep the two naps.

Well with both of mine I did the afternoon nap cuz all the nursery's around here do the naps the same time for all there kids.I still think that babies under a yr need the 2 naps a day.If he fights the nap then let him stay up n see how it goes.If u notice he can still go to bed at the same time or earlier n gets up the same time then your good u can keep him up.Sometimes u have to do it to find out if your child is ready.A lot of children r made to lie down in the afternoon until around 4 yrs old. Some not a nap but a quiet time.Every child is different n I would recommend trying out what I said n see how it goes.If all is well then keep going,n there's nothing wrong if he does end up taking a nap in the afternoon here n there especially on busy days.If it doesn't work then do what u where already doing n try another schedule.U can always just go with the flow.Bye 4 now

It just happens on it own sometimes, let him/her tell you when they are ready. And if its too early (as you said you want it after lunch..keep em awake for a bit longer) Today i had to let her play in the bath just to keep her up til 1pm. But the later the nap..the later the bed time. give her a bottle and rock her to sleep!
