A constitutional monarchy is a form of monarchical government established under a constitutional system which acknowledges an elected or hereditary monarch as head of state, as opposed to an absolute monarchy, where the monarch holds absolute power. The process of government and law within a constitutional monarchy is usually very different from that in an absolute monarchy. Modern constitutional monarchies usually implement the concept of trias politica or "separation of powers", where the monarch either is the head of the executive branch or simply has a ceremonial or symbolic role.

In representative democracies that are constitutional monarchies, like the United Kingdom, the monarch may be regarded as the head of state but the prime minister, whose power derives directly or indirectly from elections, is head of government.

Although current constitutional monarchies are mostly representative democracies (called constitutional democratic monarchies), this has not always historically been the case. There have been monarchies which have coexisted with constitutions which were fascist (or quasi-fascist), as was the case in Italy, Japan and Spain, or with military dictatorships, as is currently the case in Thailand.

I would most definitely NOT support a monarchy. Here's the reason. Look at our current situation: Dubya is trying to turn this administration into a monarchy. He is a madman, who is so power mad, he wants to run the entire world. Know someone else like that, maybe 50 years ago? Anyway, a monarchy would do no good because the people need to be free. Free with responsibilities yes, but free none the less. There is no guarantee with a monarchy that basic human rights would be guaranteed. This has been proven throughout history.

yes, actually, I'm a monarchist.

Sorry, but I just don't trust democracy, or "mob rule"; most ordinary people are too easily swayed and don't take enough time to learn the truth or educate themselves on important matters.

In monarchy, you'll get a ruler who has been prepared his (or her, I'm not sexist) whole life to be a just, intelligent, and noble ruler. Monarchs do not have to worry about being re-elected, or popularity polls; they do what is right for their people, not what the people think they want.

And in the end, if the ruler is corrupted or doesn't work out, well, that's what we have treason and coups for. We start over, with a new dynasty.

Some theists support this, but it is not a "true" monarchy.

Have you heard of Christians who compare Christ or God to "lord" or better yet, "king?" And those who want to organize government along the lines of what their religion believes?

It's similar to the idea that kings rule by divine right, only taken a step further to eliminate the middleman. I for one prefer representative democracy with a bill of rights.

This is a fascinating question! I might.
Interest rates, rates of taxation and annual growth of GDP were far superior under monarchies than under so called democracies. Wars fought by monarchies were smaller and less destructive than wars fought by democracies.
Monarchy has been much maligned and the facts of history ignored.

No i'd help this idea, in reality id take up palms adversarial to such an proposition, the perception of Monarchy in any type is arcane and could be resigned to to the historic previous books. Prince Harry / prince William and all the different royals might want to be stripped of their titles and privileged life and given effortless citizenship of present day ahead searching republic.

I do support a monarch! We could have monarchy and democracy, look at England! I'm the last American Tory though so it skews me a little.... God save the Queen!

As America we never had a monoarchy to begin with you legitimately can't say returning to one. Other than that I believe that we should have a representative monarchy, such as England has. It works much better that way it seems rather than the mess that we go through ever four years.

Do you think we ever got rid of the monarchy? No, we just replaced one monarchy with one that is slightly more representative.
